Leave the shaving to the men? I think not.

Facial hair—it's totally normal to have, but if you do want to get rid of it, there are easy ways to do so. If you’re new to the face shaving game, get acquainted with the types of face razors that exist. There are dermaplaning razors for small hairs and peach fuzz. Then, there are straight razors, electric razors, and multi-blade razors that can all be used on thicker hair.

“When used correctly, dermaplaning blades can likely be used safely at home,” says Dr. Brendan Camp, MD, a board-certified dermatologist. However, if you’re susceptible to ingrown hairs, you might want to try laser hair removal instead, says Dr. Marisa Garshick, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist in New York City.

Peep some of the best dermatologist-approved face razors here:

If your dermatologist says you're a candidate, a face razor can make your skin smoother. "Shaving removes both dead skin cells and the fine vellus hairs that are known as peach fuzz,” says Dr. Lauren Penzi, MD, a board-certified dermatologist. So, your skincare products will absorb more easily, and your makeup will go on more smoothly.

Before you shave, there are some precautions you'll want to take. just make sure your hands, face, and the razor are fully clean. Dr. Camp says you can even apply a facial oil before shaving so it feels smoother. If you have particularly sensitive skin, Dr. Penzi says you'll want to opt for a disposable razor or one with a detachable head that can be replaced so your skin is never irritated from dull razors or exposed to infections.

See below for the best face razors, per dermatologist and reviewer recommendations.

A classic option, this razor is sharp enough to get hair off, but not so sharp that it'll cut your face. Reviewers love how well it exfoliates skin and even includes replacement razors.

Dr. Camp recommends this one, too. "This popular razor helps to easily remove peach fuzz and gently exfoliate skin to brighten complexion and make the application of skin care products and makeup easier."

Rave Review: "I used to only use those super inexpensive plastic eyebrow/facial razors that you can find at CVS or Target but I tried this and I’m never going back. There isn't a single cut on my face! Sharp enough to really dermablade your face but doesn't easily cut you! I got such an even result too, applying less pressure to get results like I would with the other ones."

Reviewers call this one a "game changer," and they're not kidding. They're lightweight and easy to use, and reviewers say they're more solid than some other brands they've tried. High-quality and precise? What more could you want from a razor?

Rave Review: "Shiseido face razors are a solid option, as they are very sharp and effective, but also very safe and do not dull out quickly." —Penzi

This lit (get it?) razor recommeded by Camp gets all that extra peach fuzz and any other extraneous off your face, plus it exfoliates. Plus, it "has a blue LED light that may help with acne," he adds.

Rave Review: "This product works really well and the safety edge is reliable when using along your face. The light is a huge benefit and makes a big difference in seeing every area. It was very difficult to open the battery compartment and ended up cutting myself slightly. The blades are not sterile." —J. Porter, amazon.com

People say this razor makes their skin feel v soft, leaving them to decide to make waxing a thing of the past. "This accessible, ergonomically designed razor is made of metal, making it easy to clean and long lasting," Camp says.

Rave Review: "Great alternative to disposables and honestly, the most affordable metal razor I could find. The blade isn't as hard to remove as others make it seem, at least I had no real trouble with it. But I think some blades might have slight defects that make them finicky to insert at times. It's a sharp blade but not sharper than the disposable one I was using before. If you're totally new to this, look up how to use it properly first. FYI, I use this on completely dry skin." —Missytay, sephora.com

This razor has five sharp blades and includes aloe moisturizer on the outside for a smooth shave, Garshick says. Colorful but functional, this razor doesn't cause skin irritation and reviewers love the smooth shave it gives them.

"The ergonomic handle is shower-friendly as there is also a magnetic holder to place your razor in between uses," Garshick adds.

Rave Review: "OMG! This is the best thing since sliced bread. OK, maybe that is an exaggeration, but this billie razor is far superior to any razor blades on the market. Design is cool and modern and fits my personality. Love the razor hand colors. Performance is great too! Close shave even around curves and no razor burn. Definitely sticking with billie razors!" —Nicole, amazon.com

Penzi calls this a "multipurpose shaving tool that is a super popular, affordable, and dependable option," and the reviewers who have tried it defs agree, using them on their eyebrows and other areas of their face. They love how it's sharp, lightweight, and affordable.

Rave Review: "If you haven’t heard of a Tinkle razor or tried this in your skincare, you are missing out. These make for a soft face and don’t cut up your face. They are easy to use and so cheap to have on hand. I have ordered these over and over again." —Rayne Alexandra, amazon.com

She may be on the more ~expensive~ side, but she's powerful, promise. Reviewers love how easy it is to use and it gets those thicker-than-peach-fuzz hairs out, which a disposable razor might have a tougher time accomplishing.

Rave Review: "This device helps to exfoliate and eliminate dead skin cells in addition to helping with hair removal, including peach fuzz, to leave the facial skin looking and feeling brighter and smoother. By eliminating the dead skin cells and facial hair, it helps skincare penetrate better and makes makeup application easier." —Garshick

This razor is especially helpful for getting those stray hairs off of your face, plus it comes in a pack of 12! Reviewers enjoy getting their peach fuzz off with this tool so their makeup goes on smoother, and one person even says it's the only razor that doesn't cut their face.

Rave Review: "Like most women, I get a stray hair or two on my face, and I can see them when applying my make up. These have been absolutely wonderful at removing those easily with or without make up on, and they last through several uses." —Trinity, amazon.com

For those who are trying to be more environmentally-conscious, get a load of this guy. "This razor is made from biodegradable corn straw and wheat," Camp says. It's also the perfect size to get those finicky hairs out of every crease on your face and reviewers enjoy how it exfoliates as well.

Rave Review: "I love this razor. It's perfect size for the face and smaller areas like the eyebrows, upper lips and around the nose. I can't believe I found it so late. I have one in my bag, dressing room, bathroom, and even my office desk. I love it and am glad it worked out so well for me." —Ankur G., amazon.com

While this razor is super helpful for shaping thick eyebrow hair, Camp says, it can be used for all facial hair. It sharpens and cleans very well, and gives your face such a smooth shave. (Even a self-proclaimed skincare junkie reviewer loves it!)

Rave Review: "I had a facial a few years ago and she did dermaplaning at the end and my skin felt amazing afterward. I wanted to keep the smooth feeling so I decided to watch a few YouTube videos and try these. I will NEVER pay to have my face dermaplaned again. These are amazing and super inexpensive! I do it about once a month and use a new blade each time. Makeup goes on so smooth and my skincare sinks into my skin better." —NedoMedo, amazon.com

These adorable disposable razors are experts at getting rid of peach fuzz and any unwanted eyebrow hairs. Plus, the handle is made with at least 80 percent of recycled plastic! (I love to see it.)
